Born in Mie Prefecture in 1986. At present, Yukino Miyata is energetically engaged in activities of creative production based in Mie, since her graduation from the Kyoto City University of Arts Graduate School. While her works may appear to be acrylic paintings or drawings at first glance because they have the vivid coloration of the former and the lines on them leave a delicate and buoyant impression, these prints were produced through a very painstaking process. More specifically, Miyata employed the drypoint technique, which is generally used for engraving metal plates. She, however, made engravings with a needle on polyvinyl chloride plates, and printed images with them using a printing press. The artist neither laments a repetitive everyday life nor particularly sings the praises of how wonderful it may be. With a quiet gaze, she creates unique pictures with a pure, airy feeling, and won high accolades for her exhibition at LEESAYA last year, which was her first solo exhibition in Tokyo. For this exhibition, she not only prepared paper works, but also took up the challenge of new techniques such as combinations with silkscreens and relief printing. While conveying both the beauty of everyday life and a desperate awareness of its pains and difficulties, Miyata’s works continue to be born in silence, one after the other, without a trace of resignation. What are they saying to those who view them? We are eagerly looking forward to seeing you at Emotional Tail, a solo exhibition by Yukino Miyata that has become a regular event at LEESAYA each year in early spring! Artist Statement Who has the right answer? Emotion is in a little room. If only the little room had a tail that leaked emotion, I would be able to pray to it. Prayer does not amount to anything, but it brings relief to people who can’t do anything else.
